Cardiac Critical Care

The Department of Cardiac Critical Care at Shahid Gangalal National Heart Center is a newly established unit focused on caring for seriously ill heart patients. The department was formed with the primary aim of improving clinical outcomes through focused, protocol-driven, and multidisciplinary critical care.

This department mainly looks after patients after heart surgery, including both adults and children. It manages 26 intensive care beds across the Adult Surgical ICU (ASICU) and the Pediatric Surgical ICU (PSICU). These units run 24 hours a day, so patients receive constant monitoring and timely treatment.

The team also supports care in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and the Cardiac Catheterization Labs. Thisensuresthat critically ill heart patientsacross the hospital receiveexpert carewhen they need it.

FuturePlans

The Department of Cardiac Critical Care is working to grow and improve its services step by step. The focus is on building stronger systems, expanding capacity, and improving the quality of care for all heart patients.Oneofthe mainplans istoincreasethe numberof ICU beds from the current 26 to 40. This will allow the department to care for more critically ill patients and reduce delays in admission. There are also plans to create separate, dedicated teams for the Pediatric Cardiac ICU and the Adult Cardiac ICU. This will ensure that both children and adults receive care that is more specialized and better suited to their specific needs. In addition, the department aims to start structured academic and training programs in Cardiac Critical Care. These programs will help train doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff, and will support ongoing learning and skill development within the team.

Overall, the department is committed to improving cardiac critical care through better clinical practice, strong teamwork, and continuous development of its services. The goal is to provide the best possible outcomes for patients of all age groups.
